Laura Linney has been hailed as one of America's top well-known actors. Her fame is for playing strong characters that are equally vulnerable. Born to a well-known playwright father, but being raised by a single mother who made a living as a nurse, she became interested in theatre while working with her father during the summer then pursuing acting studies, initially in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. Within a mere two years following graduation the actress began her Broadway career. Following that, she made her debut in film and television. Since then, she has performed in many films and stage and TV productions. She has been awarded numerous prizes in her long career. They include 4 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. In spite of her many nominations, she has a passion for the theatre, and has appeared on stage and screen.
